The Center for Arrhythmia Genetics of Auxologic is highly specialized in research and treatment of forms of inherited arrhythmias (such as Long QT syndrome, Brugada syndrome, catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia, cardiomyopathies) with particular experience in clinical-instrumental diagnostics and genetic diagnostics in prevention optics.

The genetic arrhythmias can in fact cause sudden death, and it is therefore fundamental to work on the correct diagnostic classification and on the setting of therapeutic strategies to remove the risk.

The team, directed by Prof. Peter J. Schwartz, is composed of cardiologists-researchers of international level, with specific expertise in the arithmological field, medical statisticians and molecular biologists who deal with genetic analyzes for diagnostic purposes.

The Center, in addition to performing the clinical evaluation and setting up the appropriate therapies, carries out blood sampling for the screening of genes at the base of hereditary arrhythmic canalopathies and cardiomyopathies, which is performed at the Cardiac Arrhythmia Research Laboratory on a genetic basis with Next Generation Sequencing methods: this allows to obtain in a relatively short time the simultaneous screening of many genes with very high precision.

The experience of the Genetic Arrhythmia Center is available not only to patients but also to Sport Doctors, with whom the Center collaborates for the clinical and genetic evaluation of arrhythmic risk in athletes and young people wishing to perform competitive activities.

The group has an intense research activity, both clinical and experimental, which is carried out for the clinical part at the headquarters of Via Pier Lombardo and for the genetic and experimental part at the Laboratory of research of cardiac arrhythmias on a genetic basis of Auxologico, with direct benefits in patient care.
